Swimwear
I'm 44 and I'm still trying to feel confident in swimwear.
I think showing my body in tight swimwear (not that you can get loose swimwear) to the public, i.e instagram, is always going to be something that will take some time for me. I’ve done swimwear shots in the past but have always worn an oversized shirt to hide my back and bum, or used it to slightly cover my tummy.
Fast forward this year, I had the opportunity to be flown to Menorca with a small group of amazing women for a swimwear brand. A part of me was like no I can’t do this, but then I thought I’m going with girls I know, the opportunity is too good to pass and it’s a chance for me to push myself out of my comfort zone, life’s too short.
So I went! Did I panic? yes, I booked myself into a lymphatic drainage appointment, I felt this might help my bloating and excess fluid retention, I did this the day before the flight, then only to have started my period so felt more bloated than ever. At this point I was like f@*k it, it is what it is now and I just have to make the most of it. In my head I was thinking the photographer is amazing and I’m going to get amazing photos. And guess what, we did! I didn’t like my tummy in certain photos, I was sucking it all in as much as possible. But at the same time thinking I can’t believe I am doing this, this is fake.
As women we can be so harsh on what we look like, seeing ourselves the ways others do helps you realise that it’s all in your head. Obviously don’t listen to the haters.
Everything I wore is linked here
These shots came out well but I just wanted to let you know what I was doing as the photos were taken. Here I’m sucking my tummy in over the balcony
Covering my tummy with my hand
Wearing a scarf over the tummy. All the things I don’t do when I’m on a family holiday.
As much as I would love to wear a bikini right now, it’s all about the one piece for me.
